Hey all,
I have never personally seen a Dogman, nor am I keen on that idea, but even though I am in that category of non witnesses I will not easily forget the evening I was told a story by a stranger who HAD seen one. Up until that night I was merely somebody interested in the subject. Following that night I was somebody CONCERNED by it.
It was late in the year of 2017. I was driving home after a days work and the usual route happened to be blocked due to some kind of road accident. After a quick call to my partner of the time I opted to take a short drive to a local public house and wait an hour or so before trying again to get home using my favourite route.
The public house I visited was located in small and pleasant village and I was immediately relaxed upon ordering a drink and taking a seat in the well used, but comfortable, furniture. I have always liked the pleasant intimacy of village life and having to spend an hour in the warm comfort of a classic and rustic tavern with all of the earthy and unassuming charm of the local people reminded me how much I missed a time in my life now passed when I had lived in a small house at the foot of Snowdonia... surrounded only by mountains and wild country.
As I sat enjoying my drink I overheard a gentleman, perhaps in his late 50s, talking to two young people about astrology. He was clearly enjoying educating them both on some of the stranger aspects of space and time.
Being the kind of person I am, that is to say not someone to shy away from 'fringe' topics, I introduced myself and asked the man "you want to hear a really strange story?". The gentleman responded with a broad smile and enthusiastically agreed. I thought for a minute and then opted to play him a YouTube video detailing the case of Dennis Lloyd Martin. As the video played out I noticed the younger people lose interest and seek their fun elsewhere.... but my new friend listened... and he listened intently. After the video had finished I glanced at the gentleman's face and noticed immediately he looked uncomfortable.
"What do you think?" I asked.
The man seemed distracted. He shook his head and didn't immediately respond. Finally he muttered "Doesn't surprise me. There are some strange things out there. I would believe anything.... especially after what I saw in Scotland"
I am not going to lie. His response was not expected. It seemed sincere, low key and most interesting of all.... he looked about as uncomfortable I have ever seen a man look in my life.
I knew I wouldn't be able to leave until I had pressed him on this experience. As it happens.... he agreed to tell me with little resistance. His story is short... but that takes nothing away from it's strangeness or how disturbing it was to witness his fear as he recounted it. It goes like this:
My friend, it turns out, had spent much of his life in the military. He had clearly been very proud of his role in the institution and I could sense the attachment he had for these years as he explained to me how much of his life had been spent as a soldier. It was towards his final days of service that his perspective on life was changed forever.
He had found himself, as is common, on guard patrol that night. The men on patrol were walking the perimeter of a large naval base located in the far north of the UK. It was a clear night late in Autumn. All the men were experiences soldiers. Their patrol was routine... they expected nothing.
As the unit moved along the narrow track in the thick moorland surrounding the installation my friend, and one other soldier right behind him, noticed a shape emerge from the brush on their left. They immediately raised their torches. A figure of a man dashed infront of the torchlight across the trail infront of them and ran several metres into the brush before ducking down behind some thick vegetation. The men were stunned but followed the strange figure with their lights before shouting "STOP ARMY"
Their warning provoked no response. The figure remained crouched behind the vegetation. Whoever this person was had no concern for the seriousness of the situation; choosing to ignore the fact that several armed men, all within their rights to shoot if threatened, were now fixed on his position and very nervous indeed.
My friend broke from recounting his story to shiver. He looked at me almost pleadingly. It was one of the most unnerving things I have experienced. This man was now hesitating to continue with the story. Whatever had happened scared him very badly. It scared him now to tell me. It made me nervous to know this. I just nodded. What could I do but leave the rest to him?
He shook his head and sipped from his drink before saying in a broad accent "This still gives me the creeps. It still goes through me"
My friend and one other man raised their weapons and shouted at the figure hunched behind the vegetation "ARMY. YOUR ARE TRESPASSING. SHOW YOURSELF OR WILL SHOOT"
They moved forward.... their flashlights fixed.... and the thick brush burst with activity.
"The biggest dog I have ever seen just burst out and took off!" he muttered looking down at his drink. He went silent and fidgeted.
I sat in stunned in silence.
"Dog?" I asked
He looked at me confused and sincere "I don't know. It looked like a big dog"
I thought and then nodded.
Let me tell you. No matter how many videos you watch on YouTube. No matter how many books you read. When you are at the other end of a human being who tells you something like this, visibly shaken, desperately ashamed of the very words they are speaking, clearly afraid, this whole subject ceases to be abstract very quickly.
I knew then that this phenomenon we are calling 'Dogman' is not just some internet foolishness. Something is happening out there folks.... and whatever it is... it leaves people changed forever.
I have since spoken to this man one more time... and got many more details... but he now refuses to talk anymore. I feel I brought something back into his consciousness he just wants to forget... and even as my own curiosity grips me I have learnt that is no excuse to push people to relive something that does nothing but cause them anxiety and stress. People have a right to privacy and to choose what they feel able to share with others. The ridicule that comes with being open about this strange topic is something that we all, as human beings, should be ashamed of. Why? Because it does not matter what might be causing people to have these experiences... what matters is that they are very real to those who have them... and this is a subject that needs to be approached with compassion.
I believe, however it may be ultimately explained, this man saw something extraordinary that night. Something that shook him to his core.
These Dogmen.... they're real.
Now my world has changed too.
