Heard this one, jeebus scope prolly was off I didn't hear anything about wind measurements or anything so also there could have been a level of amateurism here just a couple times practicing with a different rifle and caliber. Usually you want to really have rounds down range at distance in heat, cold with varying wind speed and direction all of which would be logged and referred to during the engagement. I dunno but overwatch should have engaged more creatures (unless they decided it's too much) that way the guys on approach (personally I'd have waited before that approach to get a better idea if more are out there ) wouldn't have 5 to deal with but if this is true then the recovery once again if true is remarkable, but the shot placement was off but a big stinking round. A round to the clavicle should have pretty much eliminated usage of that arm, from how it sounds mistakes were made even that approach radios squelching, talking loudly, then once more creatures were out there overwatch was exposed and alone, at that point life is about to get a bit rough. A few more people might have made it "safer and higher chance of success" although none of them was chewed on and it seemed to me that these guys were done for but allowed to escape.
Personally when I heard the part about it struggling to get up and shaking then others coming around to assist I dunno felt like I was in a bad place again, this story kind of changed my thinking a bit. I guess that I look back to experiences and when an animal is hurt specifically a wild animal (captive or not) and people tried to help there was no doubt that we can die and the animal wasn't there to scare you off they were there and meant business more than usual. They were let go of course providing all is true, if one is out and stumbles upon an apex predator there is healthy and unhealthy reactions, for example you are 200 meters from a lion to that guy you are very much in their space but a healthy reaction might be he notices you stares at you then walks off and unhealthy would be he starts to trot up to you and charges in the last 100m. What I heard didn't sound like unhealthy reaction I fully expected someone was going to die so not sure perhaps merciful is the word I am looking for; Somewhat a human trait.
