Hey All,
Im New, and very excited to be a part of this group! I'd like to hear peoples thoughts on the Zombie Deer Disease (AKA Chronic Wasting Disease). The belief of the CDC is that the disease can/will spread to anyone (..or any thing) that consumes the meat of the animal infected with this.
How do you think that this may affect DM?

If it's a prion disease, like they've thought it was (until recently when they're questioning that), then it may well spread to humans and maybe other species. If that's what it is, it's basically "madcow" for deer.

I think dogman could beat it with Tylenol... He eats lead bullets like they're candy ; ).

This disease has actually been documented in deer populations in the past and has yet to spread to humans and other species even though tainted meat has been consumed. Also it is easy to spot the deer that are infected with this disease and if humans can do it by sight, it is likely with that big nose of theirs that the upright canines can detect tainted meat as well. But even if they eat the meat, it's unlikely that they will get infected as there has yet to be a documented case of the disease spreading through consumption.

Prions are scary stuff alright. Hopefully DM has the common sense not to eat the infected animals. Apex predator or not, that's not a nice way to go.

DM doesn't eat half the stuff it kills anyway, lol. But in all seriousness, I agree, prions ARE scary stuff... Despite my overwhelming distrust and cynicism towards government and its unconstitutional agencies that dictate through regulation without representation, I would probably still send the deer meat in to get it tested before feeding it to my kids (as is the procedure in montana right now before consuming harvested deer). My buddy who is from montana and hunts there every year just flat skipped it last year because he didn't want to deal with the hoops involved with sending the deer meat in before consumption (which can take months).
