I read that yesterday. Dems voted the repub proposed ban down. I don't think they had dogman in mind when doing so but it does beg the question: how far has it gone?? Can't fathom why something like a DM would be engineered and released, don't see a sensible endgame there.
The gmo crop debacle that has been created should've taught us something--once released it cannot be contained. Since it can't be contained, any crop with patented genetic material via "infection" is subject to licensing-- ie they are not your crops anymore unless you pay up. Neighboring farm grows gmo canola and there goes your generations old heirloom stock...It now belongs to monsanto & co.
It's food imperialism. The continent of Africa is currently under a quiet siege.

I know that mosquitos were genetically changed I hate to say it but most people think in terms of creating an animal which is strong and smart for say work (not even military) then we have some people who want to mix say shark dna which prevents cancer with human to rid people of cancer. Then we have animals like rats which have human dna to grow human ears I think that there was a lot of hope for people which needed like a heart transplant that a pig with human DNA can make it possible to have hearts more readily available. Right now a heart costs like 1 million dollars, I have touched upon this in my business plan for legal organ harvesting, let me say it now at some point when an American or whoever needs a heart or liver they will end up going to either the EU or China as America will be eclipsed since these regions are currently developing such things. I don't think that when we hear of animals with human DNA we should automatically go with the most extreme thing, India is not trying to make an elephant and human hybrid which can be passed off as Ginesh.
It's a good point about how food has been modified but also with companies in charge they will put profits well ahead of any number of people.

I'm sure there are plenty of legitimate studies and uses but humans being what they are, I gather there are/will be plenty of abuses as peterandthewolf mentions

While we're on the topic of ticks, I see there is some congressional interest in investigating lyme as a bio-weapon. came across this article in the Wash Post, I love these things--the guy is probably on the level and telling it as he sees it but are we to believe the military would disclose if they had inadvertently or intentionally released lyme infected ticks in NY?? Given that how can an article such as that linked below be taken seriously? What, we read it and feel better because we trust the post?!? Oh and because Nixon banned bioweapon research in 69, he was an honest guy.... It would be easier to accept a DM project on the grounds that they are not everywhere impacting everything one does outdoors. The misery caused by lyme disease would be difficult to atone for. www.washingtonpost.com/health/no-lyme-diease-is-not-an-escaped-military-bioweapon-despite-what-conspiracy-theorists-say/2019/08/09/5bbd85fa-afe4-11e9-8e77-03b30bc29f64_story.html

I'm sure there are plenty of legitimate studies and uses but humans being what they are, I gather there are/will be plenty of abuses as peterandthewolf mentions The potential for abuse is very much there bioengineering isn't something I know about so I am sure that people in that industry would better know the benign research and how it can be furthered and weaponized. That's the thing is that in every arena of warfare little things end up being chained together to make it into a weaponized version of the original idea.

A 100 years ago they didn't have artificial insemination.. that's gotta be one desperate scientist with low morals and self worth. I'll listen I wonder if the science will be discussed as to how using crispr dna is spliced unless they are going old school like 100 years ago when scientists claim to have a humanzee.
